Can you guess what the first thing I did when I got a copy of Catalyst: Book One of the Ronos Trilogy? Real book lovers will know. Also, a few select people from the PROW program at MacEwan University will know the answer because I know we talked about it.
There was a group of us at school who always said when one of us published a book we would buy two copies, one to read and one to smell.
That’s right. The first thing I did when I got a copy of Catalyst was smell the book.
Does that make me weird? Does anyone else love the smell of books and book stores? I don’t wear any scents but if I did I would consider buying a book scent. If one doesn’t exist then someone needs to get on it and give me a percentage for coming up with the idea.
There is a right way to smell a book. You don’t sniff the cover. You don’t open the book and stick you face in it. The right way to smell a book is hold it an inch or so in front of your face and then flip through the book from front to back, blowing the sweet scent towards yourself.
It’s a beautiful thing.
The reason you need to buy two books instead of smelling and reading the same one is because a book smells dramatically different after it has been read. It’s not nearly as good. The smell of a used book smells a little like hand sweat and dirt. Not the best.
Also, PROW people. Don’t think you’re off the hook. Two books each. One to read and one to smell. Catalyst will be a best seller one sniff at a time.
